FoFor me, that guy was the Ultimate Warrior. His promos were so out there you couldn’t make sense of what he was saying, but somehow that’s what made them so entertaining. He ran to the ring like a kid jacked up on four too many energy drinks, regardless of whether the path measured 50 feet or 50 miles. Where other men would have been crying out for oxygen after reaching the ring at that pace, the Ultimate One was drawing power from “his warriors” and proceeded to demolish whatever poor schmuck was on the other side of the ring. My buddies and I went crazy when the Warrior raised someone over his head for the gorilla press. A flying shoulder tackle and a big splash sealed the deal. A quick three count from the referee and the Warrior stood victorious over his foe. High fives were handed out and my buddies and I would speculate as to who his next victim would be.
I can't forget the promo leading to WrestleMania 6, they were other great match fixtures for the event. But the whole world was looking forward for his match against the Hug Star. Hulk Hogan who have had a long winning run before the event, was seen as the biggest deal, but the Ultimate Warrior was one character that will always ring bell in the heart of every wrestling fan. The world stood still for the match with great electrifying atmosphere at the arena of WrestleMania 6 in 1990. Two champions, the World Heavyweight Champion and the Intercontinental Champion on a face up for the World Heavyweight Championship match. Of course the Ultimate Warrior came out Victorious in a match still regarded as the best WrestleMania match ever. He became the first wrestler in history to hold the World Heavyweight Champion and the Intercontinental belt at the same time.
Years later it doesn’t seem like any of the wrestlers from that era have many good things to say about the guy that got us hooked on professional wrestling, but to be honest that doesn’t really matter. We are thankful he was around when he was and had the impact that he did because without him, I’m not sure who else would have captured our attention the way the Ultimate Warrior did.
