Woman Received 7-months and 3-weeks Sentence for Ignoring Highway Pedestrian Bridge

A 22-year-old Nigerian woman, Fasia Ajoke, received a sentence of seven months and three weeks in prison from the Special Offences Court at Bolade-Oshodi, Lagos State, for attacking a female officer of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps while she was on duty.


The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared this information on his social media account on Thursday. Wahab mentioned that Ajoke was also found guilty of resisting arrest and ignoring the pedestrian bridge, which is against the Law of the State.

In his post, The Commissioner stated, "Today, the Special Offences Court at Bolade-Oshodi sentenced a 22-year-old woman, Fasia Ajoke, to seven months and three weeks in prison for assaulting a female operative of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) #LAGESCOfficial while she was on lawful duty, resisting lawful arrest, and failing to use the Ile-Epo pedestrian bridge, thereby putting her life at risk. "She was brought before Chief Magistrate S.A Adefioye of the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile Court), Bolade-Oshodi on charges related to behaving in a manner likely to disturb the peace, obstructing, and causing a disturbance by crossing the highway."

The commissioner called on residents to refrain from attacking environmental officers and to prioritize the use of pedestrian bridges. He emphasized, "We urge all law-abiding Lagosians to avoid assaulting our environmental officers and to utilize pedestrian bridges as the state will take legal action against anyone caught violating the law." According to PUNCH Newspaper,  the Lagos State Government apprehended seven troublemakers for allegedly assaulting environmental officials during the demolition of shanties and unauthorized structures in Jakande Estate. In February, the government warned that crossing major highways in the state on foot is illegal, and any violators will face prosecution.
