Moreover, they have exposed the dire state of roads and drainage systems in major cities, a longstanding concern voiced by residents. In response to this calamity, activists and opposition figures are urging governments to go beyond mere disaster response and prioritize long-term solutions. Raila Odinga, a prominent opposition figure in Kenya, emphasized the importance of preparedness and called for proactive measures to save lives.
"We must learn from the ongoing devastation and take decisive action to prevent a crisis of even greater magnitude," stated Mr. Odinga during a press conference. "Instead of constantly seeking external assistance, we should focus on improving our infrastructure and implementing measures to mitigate the impact of future floods."
