Death Toll Climbs To 9, As Rescuers Search For Survival in South Africa Building Collapse

Rescue teams continue to search the location of a building collapse in George, South Africa, on May 9, 2024.

As of Friday, hopes were diminishing for the 44 construction workers trapped under the debris for several days. Authorities mentioned that the rescue operation is now confronted with the task of clearing thousands of tons of concrete using heavy machinery to determine if there are any additional survivors.
According to VOA, the death toll has climbed to nine after a worker in critical condition passed away in the hospital, as per officials.

Out of the 28 workers who were saved from the scene, 21 are in critical condition or have sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collapse of the five-story apartment building that was still under construction on Monday.
