Gaza Medic Discovers His Mother Among Casualties of Israeli Airstrike Amid Continued West Bank Raids
In a harrowing scene captured on October 30, 2024, a Palestinian medic working in Gaza faced a personal tragedy when he discovered he was carrying the body of his own mother, who had been killed by an Israeli airstrike in Deir al-Balah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip.
The airstrike, part of the intensified Israeli military campaign across Gaza and the West Bank, has added another layer of anguish for families already enduring loss and devastation.
In the occupied West Bank, a recent Israeli raid targeting alleged militant sites claimed the lives of at least three Palestinians, according to health officials. The raid, which took place near the Nur Shams refugee camp, included airstrikes targeting what the Israeli military described as “terrorist infrastructure.” Officials from the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) stated that one of those killed was a Hamas militant allegedly involved in planning attacks against Israel.
Since the outbreak of renewed violence following Hamas's assault on southern Israel in October 2023, the Palestinian Health Ministry reports that at least 763 Palestinians have lost their lives in the West Bank alone. This figure underscores the escalating civilian toll as Israeli military actions intensify in response to what it describes as a fight against Hamas militants in the region.
On Thursday, Israeli authorities issued additional evacuation alerts for regions in southern Lebanon, including the Rashidiyeh refugee camp near Tyre, signaling a potential expansion of military operations in response to perceived threats from other militant groups active near Israel’s northern border.
As violence spreads across multiple fronts, the ongoing conflict continues to generate tragic and deeply personal stories of loss. The situation remains highly volatile, with humanitarian groups warning of severe consequences for civilians caught in the crossfire.
