Parts of Hudson River Freeze Amid Bitter Cold in New York City


New York City is grappling with extreme winter weather as parts of the iconic Hudson River turned to ice on Thursday due to a recent cold snap.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued advisories for dangerously low wind chills across much of the eastern United States, urging residents to take precautions.

Temperatures in New York City have plummeted below freezing, with readings dipping below zero degrees Celsius, or around 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The Arctic blast has transformed parts of the Hudson River into frozen landscapes, a rare phenomenon that underscores the severity of the cold wave.

Meteorologists have warned that the frigid temperatures, combined with gusty winds, could make conditions even harsher. Wind chill – the perceived decrease in air temperature felt on the skin due to wind – could cause frostbite on exposed skin within minutes. Residents have been advised to limit outdoor activities, bundle up in layers, and ensure proper insulation indoors.

The freezing temperatures have disrupted daily life for many in the region. Commuters braving the cold have reported delays, while local authorities have ramped up efforts to provide shelter for the city’s homeless population. Meanwhile, city agencies have urged residents to check on elderly neighbors and those with limited access to heating.

Despite the challenges, the icy conditions along the Hudson River have also drawn attention for their stark beauty. Images and videos of the partially frozen river have surfaced on social media, capturing the unique impact of nature’s grip on the bustling metropolis.
