Petrol Tanker Explosion at Dikko Junction Claims 86 Lives, Leaves 55 Injured

Dikko Junction in Niger State, Nigeria was the site of a devastating tragedy on Saturday, as the death toll from a petrol tanker explosion rose to 86.

The catastrophic incident, which occurred in one of the state’s busiest areas, also left 55 individuals injured and receiving medical care at various health facilities.

According to eyewitnesses, the tanker, carrying a substantial load of petrol, lost control and overturned, causing fuel to spill across the road. Moments later, a fire ignited, triggering a massive explosion that engulfed the surrounding area. Several vehicles, shops, and roadside structures were destroyed in the inferno, contributing to the high casualty count.

Emergency response teams, including fire service personnel, medical teams, and local volunteers, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Rescue operations continued for hours as firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread. Victims with severe burns and other injuries were rushed to nearby hospitals, while authorities worked to recover bodies from the wreckage.
