Sergeant Eliyahou is remembered as a dedicated and courageous young soldier who volunteered for combat duty, fully aware of the dangers involved. His role in the Combat Engineering Corps included highly technical and dangerous tasks such as clearing explosives, breaching enemy infrastructure, and supporting frontline infantry movements under fire.
Friends and fellow soldiers described Yair as disciplined, brave, and compassionate—a soldier who was always ready to support his team and step into danger when needed. "He had a strong sense of duty," said a fellow squad member who requested anonymity. “He always said he wanted to serve with meaning, and he did exactly that.”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also offered his condolences, stating: “The loss of Sergeant Eliyahou is a painful reminder of the sacrifices made by our young men and women to secure the State of Israel. We will never forget his courage.”
The IDF continues to operate in Gaza amid escalating tensions and sporadic clashes with militant groups. The military leadership has emphasized that operations will continue as necessary to protect Israeli civilians and maintain national security.
Sergeant Yair Eliyahou’s funeral arrangements will be announced in coordination with his family. He is survived by his parents and two younger siblings. Flags across military bases were lowered to half-staff in his honor.
