VIDEO: Outrage as Vigilante Group Assaults and Strips Female Corps Member in Anambra
A disturbing video circulating online has sparked outrage after showing members of a vigilante group assaulting and humiliating a female corps member in Anambra State. The victim, identified as Jennifer Edema Elohor, was allegedly beaten and stripped naked by armed operatives believed to belong to Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known locally as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group.
The footage, which was released on Monday by the Haven 360 Foundation through its official Facebook page, captured the shocking moment the vigilantes stormed a corps members’ lodge in Anambra and subjected Elohor and some of her colleagues to brutal treatment. In the video, the men could be seen wielding rifles while violently assaulting the corps members.
According to Haven 360 Foundation, the operatives accused the corps members of engaging in internet fraud, commonly known as “Yahoo Yahoo.” Despite the victims immediately presenting their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) identification cards, the vigilante members allegedly ignored the evidence and continued the assault. The foundation noted that the young corps members were further subjected to degrading threats and humiliating actions.
In its statement, Haven 360 Foundation condemned the attack in strong terms, describing it as a “gross violation of human rights and a shameful act against young Nigerians serving their country.” The group reported that, on July 23, 2025, the vigilantes invaded the lodge where the corps members were residing, accusing them of being fraudsters. The assault reportedly escalated with Elohor being stripped naked, beaten, and left bloodied.
“The victims were subjected to unsavoury, horrible, sexually degrading words and actions, including threats of sexual violation,” the foundation stated, highlighting the psychological trauma the victims endured.
Public reaction to the incident has been swift, with many Nigerians calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the vigilante members involved. Observers noted that this was not the first time local vigilante groups in the state had been accused of excessive use of force.
Human rights advocates have urged both the Anambra State Government and the NYSC authorities to intervene, stressing that corps members, who are mandated to serve the nation under federal law, must be adequately protected. According to eyewitness reports online, several of Elohor’s colleagues were also assaulted, though none faced as severe an ordeal as she did.
The video continues to trend widely across social media platforms, fueling debates about the legality of vigilante groups and their unchecked operations in many Nigerian communities.
