Rudeboy Denies Allegations, Vows Legal Action Against Online Accuser
The Nigerian entertainment industry was thrown into controversy on September 24 when feminist activist Victoria Ayomide Agboola, popularly known by her X (formerly Twitter) handle @chubbiedivah, alleged that award-winning singer Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, was involved in what she described as a “serious and shameful” act with his housemaid.
The allegation, which was linked by Agboola to a post about Rudeboy’s wife, sparked widespread outrage on social media. According to eyewitness reactions on X, the tweet quickly went viral, with thousands of users tagging Rudeboy and demanding a response.
In a swift reaction, Rudeboy took to his official X account to categorically deny the accusation and announced his intention to pursue legal redress. The singer, who rarely engages in online controversies, made his stance clear in a strongly worded post.
“I hardly reply!!! But you see this one!!! If you like go private, leave X — I will find you. I’ll use every means, power and money. You’ll face the law. You’ll be an example (scapegoat)!” Rudeboy wrote on X.
Shortly after his response went viral, Agboola deactivated her X account, drawing even more attention to the unfolding drama. Social media users speculated on her sudden disappearance, with some interpreting it as an admission of guilt, while others suggested she was trying to avoid harassment.
Legal experts commenting online noted that Rudeboy’s reaction reflects a growing trend among celebrities turning to the courts to combat online defamation. They highlighted that Nigeria’s cybercrime and defamation laws impose serious penalties for spreading false allegations on social media.
The incident has sparked a wider debate among fans and commentators about the dangers of unverified accusations online. As one prominent X user remarked, “The internet is not a playground; one careless post can ruin lives and careers.”
While the matter may now proceed to the courts, it has already served as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of spreading unsubstantiated claims on social platforms.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether any formal complaint has been filed, but the case continues to generate heated discussion across Nigeria’s social media space.
