Suspected Serial Murder Suspect Arrested in Cross River Forest Hideout as Authorities Investigate Multiple Killings

 

Authorities in Cross River State have arrested a man identified as Akaninyene, an indigene of Obot Akara in Akwa Ibom State, following allegations linking him to a series of disappearances and killings in the Creektown area.


The suspect was apprehended on Thursday after security operatives reportedly acted on intelligence connecting him to the disappearance and suspected murder of a recent victim. According to local sources, investigators traced Akaninyene to a secluded hut allegedly constructed deep inside a forest located in Abanyama, Ukim Ita Community, Creektown.

According to reports from residents and security sources, the arrest followed an intensive search operation after concerns mounted over a growing number of unexplained disappearances within the community. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly made statements claiming involvement in several killings that occurred over a period of time.

According to security officials familiar with the investigation, Akaninyene allegedly confessed to participating in the deaths of numerous individuals who had previously been reported missing in the area. The suspect was subsequently said to have guided investigators to several burial sites within the forest. During the operation, authorities reportedly exhumed multiple bodies, many of which were discovered without heads.

Investigators further allege that the suspect admitted involvement in the killing of a victim whose disappearance was reported on May 26, 2026. According to information obtained during questioning, he claimed that another individual, described as a female accomplice, assisted in luring victims to isolated locations where the crimes were allegedly carried out. Security agencies are reportedly working to verify these claims and determine the identity and whereabouts of any possible accomplices.

Law enforcement authorities have not yet released an official figure regarding the number of victims linked to the case, and investigations remain ongoing. Forensic examinations and further identification processes are expected to be conducted on the exhumed remains as authorities seek to establish the full extent of the alleged crimes.

The shocking revelations have sparked widespread concern among residents of Creektown and neighboring communities, many of whom have long sought answers regarding the fate of missing relatives and friends. Community leaders have called for calm while urging security agencies to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation.

Authorities have assured the public that all allegations and confessional statements will be subjected to proper legal and forensic scrutiny as the case proceeds through the criminal justice system. According to security sources involved in the investigation, efforts are continuing to uncover additional evidence and identify any other persons who may have been connected to the alleged crimes.

The suspect remains in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and possible prosecution.
