Why Forgetting is Just as Important as Remembering – And How to Keep the Memories That Matter

Image
When people think of a strong memory, they often imagine remembering everything in detail. But according to neuroscientists, that’s not the way the brain is designed, nor would it be practical. Forgetting, they say, is an essential mental function that keeps the mind clear and focused. “Without forgetting, our brains would be swamped with irrelevant details, making it harder to think clearly,” one cognitive researcher explained. This natural “declutter” system helps the brain discard trivial information so it can prioritize what matters most. Still, the system isn’t perfect, and that’s why people sometimes forget important things, such as where they left their keys, an upcoming meeting, or a crucial work deadline. Fortunately, science has identified strategies to strengthen memory while still benefiting from the brain’s filtering process. HOW THE BRAIN FILTERS INFORMATION 📌 According to brain scientists : The brain receives millions of bits of information every second. Forgett...

De-extinction experts are making significant strides toward reviving a range of long-extinct species, with a comprehensive list of animals they aim to bring back to the modern world. The CEO of Colossal Biosciences, a pioneering gene-editing company, recently informed The Sun that they are working to reintroduce the dodo, a species driven to extinction by human activity, by 2028. Colossal Biosciences, recognized as the world’s first dedicated de-extinction company, is currently focused on reviving the woolly mammoth, the Tasmanian tiger, and the dodo. Additionally, the company’s Chief Science Officer revealed that their ambitions extend to other ancient creatures, including a giant bear and a 5-foot-tall beaver. Professor Beth Shapiro, the Chief Science Officer, shared her enthusiasm with The Telegraph: "One of my favorite extinct species is Arctodus, the giant short-faced bear, which stood 14 feet tall. Another fascinating species is the giant beaver, which lived in N...

Mysterious 'mermaid' mummy that 'gives people the creeps' to be studied and analysed by scientists

A supposed mermaid body fished out in the mid 1900s is to be dissected as researchers desire to make quick work of the unpleasant figure, which could simply be portions of a monkey and crocodile set up. According to Daily Star " The mysterious"mermaid"-like mummy has given people the creeps and scientists are set to figure out exactly what the weird creature is. The mummified entity, brought back to shore and donated to the Clark County Historical Society in Ohio, United States, back in 1906, will be analysed by experts. Boffins are bringing a series of tests to the "Frankensteined" body, which has unnerved people for too long. Oversized claws, a grimacing face and a fish-like lower half covered in a drape of long, grey hair, has puzzled expats. Joseph Cress, a radiologist at Northern Kentucky University, said: "It seems to be a hodgepodge of at least three different species externally. There’s the head and torso of a monkey, the hands seem to ...
