Nearly one billion Indian citizens will have the opportunity to cast their votes starting this Friday in the largest election in the world, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aiming for a third term in office.
On April 18, 2024, election officials and security personnel were observed transporting Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and other necessary polling materials via boat to a polling station in Lohore Chapori, Golaghat district, in the state of Assam, India, on the eve of the first phase of the general election.
According to VOA, Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a Hindu nationalist party, is competing against an opposition coalition led by the Congress Party, which was established to present a unified challenge to the influential leader, who is widely considered the frontrunner.
During his campaign rallies, Modi has emphasized his accomplishments in economic growth and welfare initiatives for the underprivileged. He urges large crowds to vote for him to ensure that he can maintain the progress and transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
