Millions to witness a rare total solar eclipse in Northern America

A rare total solar eclipse is anticipated to captivate millions of people across North America, as the moon obstructs the sun's face, causing temporary darkness in the afternoon skies.
According to Independent, the excitement surrounding this event is immense, with massive crowds expected to gather. It is estimated that over 4 million individuals will travel to witness this grandiose spectacle, which will be the last of its kind in North America until 2044.

States of emergency have been declared in various regions, and the eclipse's path will traverse through Texas, the Midwest, the Great Lakes region, and New England. Additionally, Mexico and Canada will also have the opportunity to witness this celestial phenomenon.

The eclipse will commence in southern Texas at approximately 1.30pm CDT (2.30pm EDT) and gradually progress towards the Midwest, reaching the Great Lakes region around 20 minutes later. By around 3.35pm EDT, it will have completely entered Canada.

The most favorable weather conditions are expected in Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland, where the eclipse will conclude. This eclipse is anticipated to attract the largest crowd ever in North America, owing to its densely populated path and the allure of experiencing over four minutes of midday darkness in select locations. Almost everyone in North America will have the opportunity to witness at least a partial eclipse, weather permitting.

An eclipse occurs when the moon fully obscures the sun's light from reaching the Earth.
