A dramatic incident unfolded in Montana when Viola, an elephant from the Jordan World Circus, managed to escape from her handlers.
The escape occurred when the gentle giant became startled by a car backfiring during her bath time. Videos circulating on social media captured the astonishing sight of the elephant strolling along the city streets, causing road closures and raising concerns among the locals.
Fortunately, the elephant was swiftly apprehended near a petrol station in Butte, Montana, and is now safely back in the care of her handlers. Prior to her capture, witnesses reported that the elephant left an unexpected surprise on a lawn in Butte.
According to the New Telegraph, Josh Hannifin, the proprietor of the petrol station, expressed his enthusiasm about the incident, stating that it was quite exhilarating.
According to him, his coworker suddenly exclaimed, "There's an elephant!" and began jumping up and down while pointing out the window.
Without wasting any time, they rushed out of the door and managed to capture a video of the elephant making its way through the parking lot.
"It's not something you witness every day, an elephant strolling down Harrison Avenue in Butte, Montana," he remarked.
Local news sources reported that the road had to be temporarily closed until the elephant was safely apprehended and returned to the circus.
Mataya Smith, who happened to be driving by during the incident, shared her observations, stating that the handlers handled the situation with utmost care.
"They didn't exert any force or pressure on her, they simply asked her politely to move along with them," she explained.
"They displayed remarkable patience, comforting and soothing her until the truck arrived."
Other witnesses mentioned that the elephant left a deposit on someone's lawn before being captured.
One local TV news station described the incident as an "unbelievable scene" and an "extraordinary wildlife sighting."
