On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, mourners gathered near the coffins of the victims of a tragic boat capsize on the outskirts of Srinagar, Indian controlled Kashmir, to offer joint funeral prayers.
Tragedy struck in Indian-controlled Kashmir as a boat carrying a group of individuals capsized in the Jhelum river near Srinagar, the region's main city.
According to the Press Trust of India, four people lost their lives in the incident, while rescuers continued their search for numerous others who were still missing.
The majority of the passengers were children, making this incident even more heartbreaking.
The recent heavy rainfall in the region had caused the water levels in the river to rise, potentially contributing to the accident.
Unfortunately, boating accidents are not uncommon in India, where overcrowded vessels and insufficient safety equipment are prevalent issues.
Mourners gather in large numbers to show support for the families of the victims and participate in the prayers at Kashmir Square for the souls of those who were lost.
