Following his arrest by police detectives in the state, Dolapo confessed to the crime and revealed that he sold the stolen motorcycle for N130,000 after killing his friend. He admitted to carrying out the act in collaboration with Sikiru Mutiu, who is currently evading capture.
According to the Vanguard, Dolapo expressed remorse for his actions, stating that he couldn't explain why he resorted to such violence against someone he considered a close friend. He acknowledged that while he had stolen motorcycles in the past, he had never taken a life before. He emphasized that he had never harmed anyone during previous thefts, even if they were unrelated to him. He described the incident as a tragic coincidence.
The stolen motorbike was sold for N130,000, and the proceeds were divided equally between Dolapo and Mutiu, as they were partners in the illicit business. Dolapo recounted that during the confrontation to retrieve the bike, his friend resisted, leading him to strike him with a stone. He expressed familiarity with Oyelakin's mother and younger brother, further highlighting the personal connection between them.
Dolapo, who identified himself as a trader specializing in selling oranges, admitted that he did not have a physical shop and instead traveled to villages to purchase oranges for resale. He disclosed that he hailed from Oyo State but resided in Ondo town. He also mentioned that this was his first time visiting the area and that he had been involved in the fruit trading business since 2021.
The state police commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, personally led the team of detectives and medical personnel to recover the decomposing body from the pit where it had been discarded in the bush. He expressed disappointment that despite the foul odor emanating from the area, the farm owners nearby had failed to notify the police about the presence of the corpse for several days.
